Urgent: Ask your MP to vote in support of Syrian refugees
Over 2.3 million people have now fled Syria’s bloody conflict. It's the fastest outflow of refugees from a country since the Rwandan genocide. So far the UK has refused to resettle a single Syrian refugee.
But after months of campaigning, we’ve just had a breakthrough.
In Prime Minister’s Questions this week David Cameron indicated he was willing to look at the possibility of offering protection to some of Syria’s most vulnerable refugees.
On Wednesday 29 January there will be an important vote on the issue in Parliament. We need you to ensure your MP votes for the UK to take part in the UN’s global resettlement programme for refugees fleeing Syria.
The vast majority of refugees are being hosted by a small number of Syria’s neighbouring countries, who are struggling to cope. Conditions are harsh and worsening; people are shivering through another freezing winter with food, fuel and water in short supply.
We have a real opportunity to offer a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable refugees affected: survivors of torture, people with disabilities or medical needs, older people and women at risk of sexual violence.
But we can’t do it alone. Please ask your MP to vote in support of Syria’s most vulnerable refugees - send an email now. It will take two minutes and it could save lives.
Thank you for your support. Maurice Wren
