This paper provides an overview of the detailed report, Improving the health of asylum seekers in Northern and Yorkshire: a report on service provision and needs (Ruth Wilson, Tandem Communications and Research) available on the Northern and Yorkshire Public Health Observatory website: www.nypho.org.uk REFUGEE HOUSING PROJECT NORTH EAST : REFUGEE ASPIRATIONS ON FUTURE HOUSING NEEDS IN THE NORTH EAST OF ENGLAND. Participation in research commissioned by Banks of the Wear (available July 2002). This report provides a snapshot of the housing and support needs / aspirations of members of the refugee communities across the North East. It specifically identifies secondary support needs in relation to move-on accommodation. The researchers and the steering group do not claim the findings as representative although this report provides the best evidence to-date on the aspirations and needs of refugees in relation to housing and settlement in the North East Region, which is recognised as a major factor in promoting longer term integration and retaining refugees in the North East.
