  • At present, the YIP Sunderland is supporting three young people’s groups. A Wednesday Drop In takes place at the Sans Street Youth Centre, and a women’s/young women’s Drop In takes place at Sunderland Minster Monday mornings.

  • YIP can also provide sexual health training to its young people from the Drop In.

  • For Refugee Week in June 2006, members from YIP took part in an international football tournament organised by Sunderland Samba FC

  • YIP is connected to a cross-regional young person’s integration group called TIE, (Together Integration Experiences) who took part in an integrated residential in October – that was recently short listed for a CSV ‘Make a difference’ Best Bridge-building Activity award in London:

  • YIP is developing young person’s groups and promoting volunteering by organising asylum seekers Drop In Group, an integrated football team, EAGLE FC, developing group from the host community (SHIP, Sunderland Hylton Integration Project).  YIP also works closely with local strategic partners and youth projects.

  • ASDAN sports group organised by Hendon Young People’s Project.

  • YIP Sunderland is currently trying to develop a young people’s forum for young refugees and young people from the host community, bringing them together to chat, through activities that interest them – their views will them be put forward to Sunderland council and Sunderland Youth Parliament.

  • YIP is also currently referring young people onto the Diversity Volunteering and Training Project which is a training programme that offers work placements to young people from the Hendon area, getting them into ‘real’ jobs.
